WHAT IS BAIL? Bail is designed to guarantee the appearance of a defendant in court at the time directed by the judge. When a Bail Agent writes a Bail Bond, they are guaranteeing that they will be responsible for the full monetary amount of the bond if the defendant fails to appear in court.
HOW MUCH DOES A BAIL BOND COST? In Florida, the Bail Bond premium (fee) is 10% of the full bail amount. For example, if the bond is set at $5000, the premium charged is $500. There is a $100 minimum premium for each bond $1000 or less.
WHAT IS COLLATERAL? Collateral is anything that the Bail Bond Agent can convert into cash in the event that a defendant fails to appear in court. It is used to financially secure the bond. Some examples of collateral are signatures, boats, cars, car titles, mortgage deeds, jewelry, credit cards, electronic equipment, etc.
WHEN IS COLLATERAL RETURNED? Collateral is returned when the court is finished with the defendants case and all fees have been paid.
